Herbert Ranson Spencer, an experienced Duluth admiralty attorney, also served in the Minnesota legislature. Thirteen years after the publication of "Spencer on Marine Collisions", he sat for the defense in the defining liability case for 'harm caused by necessity' (Vincent v. Lake Erie Transportation Co,, 1908). This treatise is listed in the "AALS Law Books Recommended for Libraries" (Association of American Law Schools) and is included in the digital collection of primary documents "The Making of Modern Law" (Gale). 481p; 24cm.
